The Gardens became famous with the Medici family, who called in Niccolò Pericoli, known as Tribolo, to design the landscaping and he created a masterpiece of landscape architecture rich of fountains and sculptures in a scenography setting with an artificial lake that was a prototype for many European royal gardens.

  • Which Medicis lived in Pitti Palace?


The Pitti Palace in Florence, Italy, was originally built for the Pitti family, but later it became the main residence of the powerful Medici family. Several members of the Medici family lived in the Pitti Palace at various times. Some of the notable Medicis who lived there include:

Cosimo I de' Medici (1519–1574) - Cosimo I was the first Grand Duke of Tuscany and a prominent member of the Medici family. He acquired the Pitti Palace in 1549 and renovated it to be the primary residence for himself and his family.

Eleonora di Toledo (1522–1562) - Eleonora was the wife of Cosimo I and the Duchess of Florence. She lived in the Pitti Palace with her husband and their children.

Ferdinando I de' Medici (1549–1609) - Ferdinando I was the son of Cosimo I and Eleonora di Toledo. He succeeded his father as Grand Duke of Tuscany and also lived in the Pitti Palace during his reign.
