Enjoy a Chianti Classico wine trip that departs from Florence and brings you to the Bottaia tour at the Antinori winery, which is a comprehensive tour for wine enthusiasts who wish to see the estate's most evocative and interesting locations.

Reach the Antinori winery in Chianti Classico for your Bottaia Tour Experience with the assistance of your private driver from your Florence hotel.

Your experience will begin as soon as you enter the winery with a screening of Cinzia Th. Torrini's film "The Antinori: Vintners since 1385", which tells the story of the Marchesi Antinori family and its role in Florentine society in earlier centuries.

The Bottaia Tour continues from the outside to the inside of the vineyard, concentrating on the production procedures, the winery's avant-garde architecture, and the modern artworks that are shown along the route. With private access to the production areas, you can see the barrique and barrel cellars.

Through a multimodal experience that includes oenology, architecture, and wine tasting, visitors will be taken through six centuries of Antinori family history.

A Toscana Rosato IGT, Villa Antinori Chianti Classico DOCG Riserva, Marchese Antinori Chianti Classico DOCG Riserva, and Badia a Passignano Chianti Classico DOCG Gran Selezione are the four estate wines you will taste at the conclusion of the tour.

Wines can change depending on the time of year and what's available.

Either the striking suspended chamber or the smaller Bottaia room will be used for wine tasting.

It can be possible to sample "Olio novo," the organic extra virgin olive oil from the Pèppoli estate, depending on the time of year.

About two and a half hours will pass during the visit, which also has additional visitors. With your personal driver, return to Florence.

F.A.Q.

  • What is the Story of the Black Rooster in Chianti?

The story of the black rooster in Chianti Classico is rooted in the rich history and tradition of winemaking in the Chianti region of Tuscany, Italy. The black rooster, known as "Gallo Nero" in Italian, serves as the symbol of the Consorzio Vino Chianti Classico, the consortium responsible for overseeing the production of Chianti Classico wine.

Legend has it that during the Middle Ages, there was a long-standing dispute between the cities of Florence and Siena over the territory of Chianti. To settle the dispute and avoid war, it was agreed that two knights would set out from their respective cities at the crow of the rooster. The point where they met would mark the boundary between Florence and Siena.

To ensure fairness, each city chose a rooster to crow at dawn on the day of the race. The Florentines selected a black rooster and kept it in a dark coop, while the Sienese chose a white rooster and kept it in a well-lit coop.

On the appointed day, the black rooster in Florence, deprived of light, crowed earlier than its Sienese counterpart. As a result, the Florentine knight set out before dawn, covering more distance and securing a larger portion of the territory for Florence.

Since then, the black rooster has been celebrated as a symbol of the Chianti region and its wine. In 1924, the Consorzio Vino Chianti Classico adopted the black rooster as its emblem to distinguish wines produced in the traditional Chianti Classico zone from those made in other areas. Wines bearing the black rooster emblem are considered to be of the highest quality and are a testament to the region's winemaking heritage.

Today, the image of the black rooster on a bottle of Chianti Classico wine signifies authenticity, tradition, and excellence in winemaking, making it one of the most recognizable symbols in the world of wine.
